چکیده
Biosorption of heavy metals from aqueous solution can be considered as an alternative technology in industrial wastewaters treatment. This innovative process uses biomaterials which are either abundant in nature such as algae, fungus, bacteria, moss or wastes coming from industrial production and biological processes such as fermentation. The paper presents results of studies carried out on biosorption of heavy metals from aquaeous solutions by algae as a low cost biosorbents. The biosorption of Cu and Zn ions from aqueous solutions by algae was studied in a batch biosorption system as a function of a contact time. Chlorella kessleri, an unicellular green algae were immobilized in alginate. The biosorption capacities and adsorption rates of Cu and Zn ions onto algal powder and immobilized algal biomass were evaluated. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson adsorption models were applied to describe biosorption. Based on the coefficient of determination R, models equations produced Acta Metallurgica Slovaca, Vol. 15, 2009, No. 4, p. 255-263 256 the very good models for Cu and Zn biosorption onto algae biomass. The maximum biosorption capacity (qmax) of immobilized and non-immobilized algae were 37.24 and 24.6 mg for Cu and 40.23 and 35.38 for Zn per gram of dry biosorbents, respectively.

Cu2+ removal and recovery by Spi SORB: batch stirred and up-flow packed bed columnar reactor systems.
The biosorption of Cu(2+) by free and poly acrylamide gel (PAG) immobilized Spirulina platensis (SpiSORB) was characterized under batch and continuous packed bed columnar reaction systems. The biosorption of Cu(2+) was shown to be highest at pH of 6.0 for both types of biomass. The PAG immobilization process did not interfere with the Cu(2+) binding sites present on biomass leading to cent perc...

The paper discusses various aspects of biosorption of microelements by marine seaweeds to be used as mineral feed supplement for livestock. n the study, biosorptive properties of a single marine species Cladophora rupestris and mixed species of algae from the Baltic Sea (a mixture f Cladophora sp. and Enteromorpha prolifera) were investigated. The mechanism of biosorption was identified as cati...
متن کاملBiosorption of Heavy Metals Using Algae: a Review
Various algal species can be used for removing heavy metals like Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn from aqueous solutions successfully. Biological removal of metals is possible by both living and non living algal biomass. Algal biosorption is dependent on various parameters such as pH, biomass concentration, temperature, contact time and initial concentration of metal ion in the solution. The potential me...

Biosorption of each of the heavy metals, Zn(II) and Cu(II), and of the binary mixture of these two metal ions by the indigenous Thiobacillus thiooxidans was investigated in this study. Equilibrium concentration (qm) and dissociation constant (Kd) were calculated by fitting the experimental data with the Langmuir isotherms. The effects of pH, pretreatment of biomass, and temperature on the amoun...

We have compared the analytical results obtained by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and by scanning electron microscopy with an energy dispersive X-ray analytical system (SEM-EDX) in order to explore the mechanism of metal ions biosorption by biomass using two independent methods. The marine macroalga Enteromorpha sp. was enriched with Cu(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), ...
